Samsung to Retire Old Six-inch Semiconductor Production Lines
November 28, 2008
Korea's Samsung Electronics revealed on November 27 that the company will retire two old non-memory semiconductor production lines in the first quarter of 2009, Korea's Chosun Ilbo reported. The two lines to be closed will be Line 3 and Line 4, both located in Giheung, Gyeonggi Province, and mainly manufacturing six-inch wafers, including CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor), for use in digital cameras and handheld devices. The present workers at two said lines will be relocated to other lines. It is expected that by closing the two six-inch lines Samsung will henceforth focus on eight- and twelve-inch wafer fabrication.
